Darveaux Dulcimers

(Site Under Construction)

Alan Darveaux was born in 1946 in Connecticut. He grew up on Long Island Sound. His interest in acoustic music started in high school and led to a college group known as the "Newcomers". The dulcimer caught his eyes and ears while visiting friends at Berea College in KY back in 1967. He left Berea with all the information, books and records he could find on the dulcimer. Since then he has eagerly sought as much history, lore and makers of the dulcimer as he can fit into his life.

Comments about Darveaux Dulcimers (taken from Everything Dulcimer):

"I own one - love it. It is a shorter vsl, 24.5 which helped me alot when I first started playing dulcimer. It is now my secondary dulcimer, but I have used it with many different tunings and string configurations and the intonation is very consistent - plus it stays in tune."

"I have a tear drop shaped Devareaux with custom designed soundholes. It is a very nice sounding dulcimer with a rich tone and resonant bass. I like the fact that he uses a traditional style and materials, such as bone for the nut--no plastic here. I love the smoothness of the ebony fretboard and the shorter fret length is good for my hands. The action is nice and low, so this is a very easy dulcimer to play, with little pressure required on the strings. I find my fingers can glide from note to note on this dulcimer easier than almost any other I have played."
